The Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) has commended the Lagos State government for the successful completion of the COVID-19 Home Grown School Feeding palliative to 37,589 households across the state, which captured 902 schools.
In a media release it issued, Friday, CSACEFA recalled the state government in the bid to continue with the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP) for primary school pupils in primary one and three despite school closure.
“The Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development with the support and supervision of Lagos State Government through LASUBEB successfully completed the COVID-19 Home Grown School Feeding palliative to 37,589 households across the state, which captured 902 schools,” CSACEFA added.
The feeding exercise began on May 12 this year with the identification and verification of households of pupils in the 202 centres from the 20 LGEAs.
The LGEAs are: Agege, Ajeromi- Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako- Ijaye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, L/Island, L/Mainland, Mushin , Ojo , Oshodi, Somolu, and Surulere.
It was flagged off on a low key in Lagos on May 21 this year with the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo; Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Hon.Wahab Alawiye-King; Board Members, Board Secretary, few other dignitaries and CSACEFA representative in attendance.
The take home pack (Ration) comprised uncooked food made up of 5kg bag of rice, 5kg bag of beans, 500ml vegetable oil,750ml Palm oil, 500 mg Salt, 15pcs of eggs and 140gm tomato paste.
According to CSACEFA, the exercise was done orderly across state as no case of violence was recorded by their members at the LGEAs monitored, noting that WHO and NCDC guidelines were duly followed at most centres.
The civil society noted, however, “Some centres were found without infrared thermometers and some centres did not adhere fully to social distancing especially centres where the palliative delayed before arriving.”
Ultimately, CSACEFA said the exercise was commendable being the first of its kind and if there would be another intervention, “We expect it to be an almost prefect and seamless situation”.
