The Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation has commissioned a state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technology centre at Obele Community Junior High School in Surulere, Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and advance digital learning in public schools.
Executive Director Mrs. Toyin Olanrewaju disclosed this development in a statement released on Tuesday, noting that the intervention aligns with the foundation’s broader initiative to create enabling learning environments for students in underserved communities.
The newly established facility, which was converted from an unused classroom, forms part of GAMSU’s Ideal Classroom Project. It has been fitted with essential equipment including workstations, seating arrangements, ventilation systems, solar-powered inverters, desktop computers, a multimedia projector and screen. The solar energy installation guarantees continuous power supply, ensuring students can access digital resources without disruption.
Obele Community Junior High School, established in January 2003, currently enrolls 983 pupils, predominantly from economically disadvantaged households in the Lawanson and Ojuelegba areas of the state.
At the commissioning ceremony, Board Secretary Mr. Spencer Onosode, speaking on behalf of Board Chair Mr. Moyo Ajekigbe, explained that the project embodies the late Mr. Gamaliel Onosode’s conviction in education as a catalyst for societal transformation.
According to him, the initiative addresses digital inequality, promotes inclusive education and guarantees that underprivileged children are not excluded from knowledge acquisition.
Mrs. Olanrewaju reiterated the foundation’s dedication to educational fairness and progressive learning methodologies, stressing that every child deserves quality education and access to contemporary learning tools irrespective of socioeconomic status.
She expressed confidence that the ICT facility would substantially enhance computer proficiency among students while empowering teachers with digital pedagogical resources.
Mr. Olusegun Oshinaike, Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary for Education District IV, who represented the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, applauded the foundation’s contribution to the education sector.
He described technology as fundamental to sustainable education delivery, expressing appreciation for GAMSU’s timely intervention which he said would enhance digital learning capabilities at Obele Community Junior High School and extend benefits to surrounding educational institutions.
The Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation operates as a registered non-profit organization focused on improving education quality and empowering young Nigerians. Its Ideal Classroom Project delivers infrastructure development, educational materials and technology solutions to promote universal access to learning opportunities.
