Tragedy occurred Monday night when two persons among seven reportedly heading to a funeral service died, four others rescued while one person is still missing in a boat mishap in Ofin, Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The incident, which happened around past 7p.m., was said to have involved a fishing boat which left Makoko for Ofin area of Ikorodu with seven passengers – five adults and two infants.
The passengers, according to reports, were all heading to Ikorodu for a funeral service when the unfortunate incident erupted and the boat capsized.
Officials of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) were said to have arrived the incident scene to rescue them victims even as one person is yet to be found.
The General Manager, LASWA, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel said emergency respondents like men of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Marine Police were deployed to support the ongoing search operation for the missing victim.
He also assured that further investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause of the incident.
