On September 10th, 2024, Huawei made waves at its highly anticipated product launch in Shenzhen, unveiling the world’s first tri-fold phone and showcasing its latest advancements in intelligent driving technology. The event, coinciding strategically with Apple’s keynote earlier the same day, emphasized Huawei’s bold statement in the tech landscape.
Taylor Ogan, an American tech expert attending the event, shared his insights in a tweet thread on X. “Huawei’s timing is not a coincidence; Apple’s keynote was just a few hours ago. This is symbolic,” Ogan noted. He described being one of the few Americans in a predominantly Chinese crowd, where excitement ran high for the new Mate XT Ultimate Design. According to Ogan, the device, priced between $2,800 and $3,370, already has over 3 million pre-orders, reflecting the enthusiastic reception.
The crowd, made up largely of Huawei employees and their families, reacted enthusiastically to features like the device’s triple-screen use cases, on-device AI capabilities, and a range of other innovative functions. Ogan highlighted the striking differences between this event and typical Apple keynotes, noting the personal and familial nature of the audience. “Different parts of the stadium cheer when Richard [Huawei’s CEO] announces new features. Quite different from Apple keynotes,” he observed.
The launch didn’t stop at mobile devices. Huawei also introduced groundbreaking features in its intelligent driving technology, including a 43-inch wide-color AR-HUD display, and a unique autonomous park-seek mode enabled by its million-pixel exterior intelligent headlight system. Ogan noted that the technology was able to autonomously navigate a car through city streets, interacting with pedestrians and other vehicles along the way, a feature currently unparalleled in cars outside China.
With cutting-edge products and innovations, Huawei’s latest launch signals its determination to remain a dominant force in the global tech scene, despite growing geopolitical challenges.
