Ikeja Magistrate’s Court has sentenced, a 22-year-old trader, Mohammed Abdulhamid, to five years in prison for receiving stolen property valued at N2.19 million. The convict, who resides in the Ayobo area of Lagos, pleaded guilty to the two counts of conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
Magistrate O. O. Fagbohun, who presided over the case, sentenced the convict without an option of fine and ordered that he should be sent to the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, emphasising that the sentence would serve as a deterrence to others.
The prosecutor, Inspector Felicia Okwori, informed the court that the offences were committed in June 2023 at 56 Captain Davies Road, Ayobo, Lagos. The convict received the stolen property from Mohammed Awalu, a security guard for the complainant, Mrs Omolola Idowu. Awalu is currently serving his jail term for the same offences.
The stolen property included two gates valued at N540,000, window protectors worth N870,000, a generator worth N300,000, a ceiling fan worth N25,000, a gas cooker at N375,000, and a pumping machine valued at N85,000, all totaling N2.19 million. The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
