The General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Ms. Ajibike Shomade, has expressed readiness to work with the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) to regenerate slum areas in the state.
Shomade, who disclosed this on Wednesday when members of the Institute led by its Lagos State Chapter Chairman, TPL. Adebisi Adedire, paid a courtesy visit to her office at lkeja, thanked the delegation for the visit.
The General Manager revealed that the Agency is presently collating the total number of slum areas in each Local Government and Local Council Development Area across the State, stressing that the ultimate goal is to develop a comprehensive regeneration programme for blighted areas in Lagos State.
Earlier, TPL. Adebisi Adedire said the primary purpose of the visit was to formally congratulate the General Manager on her appointment, as well as inform her that all members of the Institute are ready to support and collaborate with the Agency in the fulfilment of its set goals and objectives.
He said the State Chapter of the Institute is so glad to have a Town Planner at the helm of affairs of the Agency, describing the new General Manager as a woman who had been in the system for years and has firsthand information on issues.
While noting that giant strides have been made on urban regeneration in the State, Adedire maintained that there is still much to be done and declared the intention of NITP to collaborate and support the Agency towards achieving its mandate on the regeneration of urban slums in Lagos.
