The Lagos State Government have flagged off a Non Destructive Integrity Test on Public Schools in the State.
The NDT is expected to assess the stability and integrity of the buildings of 25 selected primary and secondary schools.
A flag-off ceremony was held today at Omole Senior Secondary School, Omole Lagos.
In his address, the General Manager of Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL), Dr. Afolabi Abiodun said the exercise affirms the commitment of the present administration to reform the Education and Environment Sector in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.
“Our Laboratory is well equipped to carry out various tests to ensure the integrity and fitness of buildings and materials alike.
“The ND Test we are conducting are diagnostic in nature and will reveal structural defects if any, in the school buildings and the report of our findings will be forwarded to Mr Governor for necessary actions.”
Afolabi noted that the exercise positions the State Government as a model in the post construction audit culture, “I therefore urge all stakeholders in the built environment to emulate this in order to ensure safety.”
The initiative is also extended to private schools as 50 private schools in ikeja have subjected their buildings to this test.
The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring Zero Tolerance to building collapse through quality control assurance in building and civil engineering materials.
