Operatives of the Lagos State Police have arrested 24-year-old rapper, Awodoyin Mayokun with stage name Superwozzy, along with two of his crew members in Ogudu area of the state after they were allegedly found with several charms and marijuana.
His crew members also seized are, Okoh Miracle, 18, and Shonaike Adebola, 20.
Relaying the arrest, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said they were intercepted in a Chevrolet Saloon car around 9:30 a.m. on Friday by a team of anti-crime patrol from Area H.
Following the released of his video, on Friday, where the rapper tabled police harassment, excessive use of power and attempted extortion during their arrest, the PPRO urged the public to disregard the video, which he described as “mischievous, baseless and an attempt to paint the police black”.
Adejobi further clarified what led to the arrest. “The glasses, front and back of the vehicle, are fully tinted which aroused the suspicion of the patrol team. Efforts to get the occupants identified was rebuffed, as they refused to come down or wind down the side glasses of the car.”
Therefore, to detect and identify the occupants of the vehicle for security reasons coupled with the police’s experience on criminals’ modus operandi, the PPRO noted that the patrol team called for reinforcement and eventually, the three occupants were arrested and the vehicle towed to the station at Ogudu.
According to Adejobi, it was during the search, a wrap of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp and some charms were recovered from the suspects.
He also added that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a detailed investigation of the incident while they were already detained.
