The Pastor of Peculiar Generation Assembly Church Lagos, Chris McDouglas Omosokpea, has been arrested at Zone 2 Police Command Lagos, Monday night, for alleged sexual abuse of his member’s 14 years old daughter (name withheld) for four year.
Douglas, whose church is sited at 17/19 Mututiatu Kayode Street off Ayodele Street, Mafoluku area of Oshodi, was earlier invited at the Makinde Police station for alleged defilement of the said survivor. He, however, took the matter to Zone 2 Command Onikan to seek redress.
According to the mother of the survivor (name withheld), Douglas refused to go to Makinde Police Division but wrote a petition to the AIG against her. That led to her being invited for investigation over his petition.
During interrogation, Douglas was said to have affirmed to the allegations levelled against him – sexually abusing the 14 years old, who is now 18, in the past four years.
Swiftly on the heels of his confession, the DCP D8 immediately ordered for his detention for the charge of statutory rape which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the court.
Recalling how it all began, the survivor said “pastor Douglas” held her with fake prophecies and she kept the abuse from her parents, who were members of the church for 12 years.
Although she concealed the truth from her parents, she spoke out after four years when she was becoming more traumatised by fear and pain.
Consequently, the irate parents reported to the Police at the Human Rights Section of Makinde Station. Although the clergyman was invited, he reportedly took to his heels and feigned illness.
To aggravate the case, Douglas’ wife, Mrs. McDouglas Omosokpea told the police she knew about the abuses but said her husband was in a relationship with the survivor. She further accused the survivor’s mother of being aware.
Before his arrest, the alleged paedophile was said to have mounted the church altar on Sunday May 31 to preach about the case and how he had reported at Zone 2 to ensure the family of the survivor was dealt with decisively.
While this case is still blowing hot, the survivor has revealed other possible sexual activities involving the sexual predator with some members of the church choir.
When LagosToday spoke with the Secretary and Operations Manager of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), Mr. Ebenezer Omejalile, the arrest was possible with the help of several officers and advocates.
“We appreciate the good office of the PPRO Z2, the D8 team, our advocates, Iya Gani Fawehimi in person of Barrister Abiodun of African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Our Criminal Justice Officer, Mrs. Asala, and Ify,” he lauded.
Another meeting has been fixed for this week Friday June 5 this year while Douglas remains in custody.
