In its bid to rid Lagos State of cultism, hooliganism, and crimes, the Lagos State Police Command has intensified efforts with the arrest of 17 deadly armed teenage hoodlums in Sasi-Iganmu area of the state on Monday September 14.
The suspects are: Afolabi Abeeb, 18; Adeniyi Fawaz, 18; Ezekiel Kehinde, 16; Babatunde Toheeb, 17; Olanrewaju Quadri, 19; Sunday Okon, 16; Muhammad Usman, 17; Ayinla Teslimi, 18 and Ayantunja Daniel, 17.
Others are: Prince Ogungbemi, 17; Ope Semiu, 18; Abeeb Ajayi, 14; Toheeb Lamidi, 15; Isreal Iyiyemi, 14; Omokunle Tomola, 16; Faruq Babatunde, 20; and Damilare Alabi, 15.
Armed with dangerous weapons, the boys were arrested while attacking, harassing and dispossessing residents of their valuables in areas including Amosun, Zion, Mosalasi and Ikale Street in Sasi Iganmu area.
Premised on the State Police Command’s proactive measures to curbing crimes, police operatives attached to Orile Division of the Command swung into action and nabbed them all.
Preliminary findings, according to the State Police Spokesman SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, showed that the hoodlums have not been linked to any of the existing cult groups in the state, but have various factions that foment troubles, engage in crimes, social vices and brouhaha in the areas.
As a result, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while reaffirming his zero tolerance for cultism and other social vices, ordered the suspects to be profiled, investigated and charged to court without any delay in order to nip their criminal potentials and tendencies in the bud.
He further assured the public of the zeal of the police, under the leadership and in line with the ideological perspectives of the Inspector-General of Police, to adopt modern and effective anti-crime strategies to provide adequate security for all and sundry in Nigeria, particularly, in Lagos State.
