The federal government has approved slash in price for issuance of fresh marriage license to a place of public worship in Lagos state and others from N30,000 biennially to N6,000 per year effective from July 1 this year.
This was made known in a public notice to announce that the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola approved the recommendation of the Stakeholders at the Sensitisation Conferences held across the country in the third quarter of 2019.
It was for the downward review of fees payable for the following services as they relate to the conduct of statutory marriages under the Marriage Act CAP M6 LFN 2004.
They include: Issuance of fresh marriage license to a place of public worship from N30,000 of two years to N6,000 annually, payable for five years in the first instance.
Renewal of marriage license by a place of public worship from N30,000 yearly to N5,000 per year, payable for three years at each instance.
As signed by the Signed Permanent Secretary/Principal Registrar of Marriages in Nigeria, Georgina Ehuriah, statutory ordinary marriage foes now N15,000 from N21,000.
Statutory special license fees from N35,000 to N25,000.
The notice further notify all that the new fees take effect from Wednesday July 1 this year.
Accordingly, the notice highlighted that a link has been created on the ministry’s website www.ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng to enable states and local governments access the ministry‘s automation platform for services relating to the conduct of Statutory Marriage.
Stakeholders are, therefore, encouraged to take advantage of the reduced fees to license their Places of Public Worship and continue to celebrate Statutory Marriage.
