The Lagos AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has trained 1600 Traditional Birth Attendants on the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, Referral, Linkages and Universal Safety Precautions across 20 Local Governments of the State.
Addressing participants at the two-day training of five batches, the CEO of LSACA, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke said that Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu graciously approved the release of funds for the sensitisation to reduce vertical transmission of HIV from Mother-to-Child.
She said the Agency’s goal of achieving an HIV-free generation and the UNAIDS 90-90-90 initiative to eliminate new HIV infections by the year 2030, resulted in a partnership with the Traditional Medicine Board to sensitise them on prevention of mother-to-child transmission
She therefore urged traditional medicine attendants to know their limits on delivering HIV positive mothers, adding that the Agency will be deploying the use of HIV oral test kits for the clients of the TBAs because early screening determines early referral.
