Lagos State government, yesterday, kicked off distribution of N100 million worth of working equipment to over 1,000 indigent residents.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada, who disclosed this at the kick-off of the equipment at Mile 12, said the empowerment materials would be distributed across five locations.
She said residents of Isogun, and others were beneficiaries in the first of the five locations that the empowerment equipment would be distributed.
The materials distributed included grinding machines, sewing machines, hair-dryers, barbering clippers with sterilising devices and generators, pop-corn machines, sharwama grillers and toasting machines.
The commissioner said the intervention of Lagos State government was crucial at this period when nations all over the world, private sector and civil societies are clamouring for better ways to eradicate poverty and accelerate women empowerment.
In another development, wife of Lagos State governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged youths to take advantage of various opportunities, which abound in the state to fulfil their potential.
She stated this, yesterday, in Lagos at the one-day Lagos inter-youth collaboration programme with the theme, “Youths and Moral Values in An Evolving Society: Challenges and Recommendations,” organised by the office of the First Lady.
The governor’s wife said the programme was aimed at sensitising about 143 groups participating in the programme on the need to inculcate moral values despite the challenges in Nigeria.
