• Victims get N.5m, N.4m, N.2m
In line with its pledge to protect the lives and properties of Lagosians, the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration has provided succour for 31 victim families of the rainstorm that occurred in Badagry on Monday May 25 leaving properties destroyed, as he advised them against marrying new wives with the money.
The state government on Thursday August 13 carried out this exercise to victims which were grouped into three categories according to the level of damages suffered.
Those who suffered severe damages got N500,000 while those who suffered moderate and mild damages got N400,000 and N200,000 respectively.
The Special Adviser, Culture, Mr. Solomon Bonu, who represented the governor at the Badagry Local Government Area, today presented cash support to 31 families whose buildings were severely damaged by the rainstorm.
Still speaking on the four affected communities namely: Iragon, Iragonthogli, Iragbo and Kemu, Sanwo-Olu said the state government deemed it fit through the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to compensate the victims in order to alleviate their suffering and reduce the negative impact of the incident.
He implored beneficiaries not to divert the money to other projects, marry new wives or host parties, insisting that the money should be judiciously utilised to rebuild their damaged houses.
Meanwhile, the special adviser thanked the governor for coming to the aid of his people, saying the cash donation would be a huge relief to many affected by the storm.
Bony adds, “The governor cares about the people. That is the reason he also ensured the National Emergency Management Authority provides and commences the distribution of food and other support items to the victims today.”
The LASEMA Director-General and CEO, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the victims being supported by the state government would get the palliatives in two batches.
While 31 households got their palliatives today, Oke-Osanyintolu assured other victims that the second batch would get theirs next Thursday.
