The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) in collaboration with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) inspected 109 boats in line with its Comprehensive Condition Survey of all commercial boats plying the Lagos State Waterways.
A total of 109 boats have been inspected so far, 21 defective boats were issued a repair list and directed to return to the nearest boatyard for hull and machinery repairs.
About 10 defective lifebuoys have been confiscated while 92 worn out lifejackets have been confiscated and destroyed.
The exercise which has been ongoing for the past four weeks and still counting began at Elegbata Jetty (Ebute-ero) on July 21 this year.
Four major locations: Elegbata, Falomo, CMS Marina and Makoko have been covered so far.
LASWA, therefore, maintained its commitment to continue to collaborate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the state waterways are safe and secure.
