… Tasks Pupils To Commit To Reading
The lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly representing (Eti-Osa 2), Hon. Yishawu Gbolahan, has distributed both exercise books and bags to pupils in 14 schools.
Yishawu, who is also Chairman House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning while addressing the pupils urged them to study hard to excel in their studies.
“While you are playing, you must also work hard because you are the future of Nigeria. The future is yours and what can get you there is knowledge,” he added.
The programme is organised by the GOYABAT movement.
According to him, “This is a back to school programme and it is a way to assist parents and put smiles on the student’s faces.
“We provide buses to transport students among other things. The aim is to ease the burden of parents.”
Responding, Head teacher, Obalende primary school, Mrs Abimbola Oyebanji appreciated the kind gesture of the lawmaker and lamented the lack of electricity in the school.
In the same vein, Mr Kayode Edun, another head teacher of another school, said the government alone cannot solve the problem of education, saying it is important for stakeholders to assist.
He said the school environment is not conducive for learning and that there is no electricity.
“The structure needs maintenance to make the learning conducive for the pupil and we need more teachers,” he said.
