The second day of the Nigerian Bar Association’s 62nd annual general conference began with drama as lawyers protested over bags.
The aggrieved lawyers have not been given their conference bags which contains materials and other items to enable access to the venue.
Eko Atlantic and Eko Hotel and Suites are the venues for the conference. The former however is the venue for Tuesday’s proceedings.
Themed ‘Bold Transitions’, the conference will run until August 26.
An exclusive video obtained by Qed.ng showed the lawyers demanding to be given their bags.
A source at the conference told Qed.ng that the delay is being caused by the decision of the technical planning committee to return some bags for being substandard.
“According to a member of the technical planning committee, they claim that some of the bags that were supplied were substandard and they had them returned so they should be replaced. That is why it is taking so long. They have promised that the delegates whose conference materials are outstanding would receive theirs by 25th (August) on the day of the annual general conference which is technically the last major day,” the source said.
A number of persons spoke at the opening ceremony on Monday at Eko Hotel and Suites. Award-winning novelist Chimamanda Adichie delivered the keynote speech. Presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar also gave speeches, including a vice-presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima.
