In continuous celebration of Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary, as well as efforts to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on aged residents, the Lagos State Government distributed food items to the aged and residents of four communities in Lagos.
The communities included: Okegun-Odofin in lbeju-Lekki; Otto, Lagos Mainland Local Government; Egan, Alimosho Local Government and ljeododo, Ojo Local Government.
Speaking during the presentation of the food items to the beneficiaries, done through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folasade Jaji, said the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration is mindful of the situation in the country, which necessitated the distribution of another round of food items to economically disadvantaged residents.
She told the beneficiaries that the gesture was made possible by the present administration, in collaboration with several private sector donors, to reduce the effect of the pandemic on the people.
“These materials are not just from the government alone. We also have the support of the private sector in order to ensure that the citizens do not suffer during the current pandemic period,” says Jaji.
In his reaction to the state government’s gesture, the Baale, Okegun-Odofin in lbeju-Lekki, Ajibola Ogunkoya and his counterparts in other communities lauded the government and the donors.
They expressed that the beneficiaries were very pleased that the Lagos State government showed concern for the aged and poor during the independence anniversary celebration.
