A video has surfaced online showing over 35 women and men stranded at a park in Dubai.
It was gathered that the individuals, who have been there for about three weeks, were unable to afford their rent as their companies stopped paying their salaries.
Initially, some of them were seen sleeping outside the Nigerian Embassy as they appealed for help. After a few day they moved to the park.
One of the women, a former housemaid, said she has been there for two weeks.
“I have three children in Nigeria and just want to get home to them,” she said.
Another man, a nutritionist, said that since his arrival in January, he has been unable to find a paying job.
The individuals have been appealing to the Nigerian embassy for an aid flight home, although 70 of them were flown home last week.
An eyewitness said that: “When I was there with them I watched a labourer from a nearby construction site slip one of the women some money. Goes to show the camaraderie and support between everyone right now.
“These people desperately need a flight home – and a better place to wait out this crisis.”
