Nigeria’s Kenneth Ize will partner with Karl Lagerfeld, the late designer’s namesake brand, to release a capsule collection incorporating traditional African artistry.

Ize, took to Instagram with the news and acknowledged that he is the first Black designer to ever collaborate with the brand.

Though images of the capsule have yet to be released, Ize will likely bring Nigerian weaving technique aso oke, which he frequently employs in his collections, to the collaborative range.

The designer first emerged in the international fashion scene in 2019, when he was nominated as a finalist for the LVMH Prize.

Since then, Ize has garnered the support of fans including Naomi Campbell, who closed his Fall/Winter 2020 show to much buzz.

“The breadth of Karl’s work has been very inspiring to me, and it’s an honor to be working with his namesake maison. Our vision is to combine Karl’s Parisian-chic aesthetic with elements of traditional African artistry.”

The Kenneth Ize x Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection releases sometime in April 2021 at the Karl Lagerfeld website and stores.
