The Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has inaugurated an eleven (11) Member Emergency Response Team at its Corporate Headquarters, Marina, Lagos for strategic and rapid response to emergencies at the agency’s Headquarters and the port locations.
Speaking during the occasion, the Managing Director, NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, represented by the Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, Hon. Onari Brown appealed to members to be ready to put themselves at the frontline of emergency response at the Marina Headquarters at all times.
The MD noted, however, that every head of department is a constituent part of the emergency response team who has specific roles to play during the emergency.
Usman enjoined respective officers to have sense of responsibility to duty and ensure effective collaborations at such delicate periods.
While noting that two teams would be constituted at the port levels vis-a-vis Port Emergency Management Team (PEMT) and Port Emergency Response Team (PERT), she added that details of their membership and modus would be duly communicated to all the port locations.
The committee, according to her, is expected to amongst other things respond proactively during work place emergencies covering fire, explosion incidents, medical emergencies (like Ebola, Lassa fever, Covid-19 and others), public safety threat, armed robbery and terrorism threat, marine vessel collision in the port, accidental release of hazardous substances and natural disasters like flood or storm.
