The Managing Director of Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), Mr Abdoulbaq Balogun, has sensitised residents of Badagry on the need to patronage ferry services which guarantee seamless transportation.
Balogun made the plea during a stakeholders meeting held at Ferry Terminal, Ebute Miller, Marina Badagry on Tuesday.
Represented by Mrs Bunmi Mofunlewi, the Head of Administration and Human Resources of Lagferry, Balogun said LAGFERRY has begun service to ensure effective transport connectivity.
He said the operation would attract economic and social benefits to Badagry and its community.
“The ease of access, reduced travel time and increased mobility options would contribute to economic growth and attract investment to our region.
“This terminal will serve as a hub for tourism and recreational activities.
“It will also boost our local economy and provide the opportunity for visitors to experience the natural beauty of our waterways,” Balogun said.
According to him, the Lagos State Government is committed to improving water transportation as a panacea to traffic congestion.
He assured that there is insurance coverage for LAGFERRY passengers and that the captains are professionals.
Chief Hundogan Samuel, the Agoloto of Badagry, expressed gratitude to the state government for extending the services to Badagry area
Samuel, however, appealed to the government to employ Badagry youths to work with the LAGFERRY.
The Chief Imam of Badagry, Alhaji AbdulHakeem Akewusola, thanked the state government for the service.
Akewusola urged the government to improve safety and security of ferries so as to attract more customers to the service.
He also urged the government to make security the topmost priority to give Badagry indigenes and other residents confidence.
It was gathered that LAGFERRY would operate from Badagry via Liverpool to CMS/Marina in the morning and from CMS/Marina to Badagry in the evening.
