Officials of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos Police Command, on patrol at the Third Mainland Bridge On Tuesday afternoon, have stopped a 67-year-old man from leaping into the Lagoon on his birthday.
The elderly man, who gave his name as Oluwatoye Bamgboye, from Oju–Ore, Ogun State, was attempting to jump into the Lagos Lagoon inward Lagos Island when the officers stopped him.
The RRS in a press release, said the man stated that he had a problem that made him sell his house, land and car. He said he could not still raise enough resources to fix the problem. He then went on to obtain a loan but the problem still persisted.
He said that he was offered a job but when he resumed at the place of employment, he was informed that the job had been given to someone else.
“Today being my birthday, I have decided to end it all. The burden and the frustration is too much for me to bear.
“My wife has abandoned me in the process,” he said, according to the press statement.
The RRS said the man had been taken to Adekunle Police Station in Yaba, Lagos, where efforts were in progress to contact his family members.
