Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists in the Ebute Meta axis of the state.
The suspects, Tunde Rosanye and Muyideen Ayede, were said to have been arrested with weapons, and the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Wednesday that a manhunt had been launched for other fleeing suspects involved in the unrest in the affected areas.
The statement read in part, “The Lagos State Police Command has restored normalcy to Herbert Macaulay and Ondo Street areas of Ebute Meta, where some suspected cultists attacked individuals, dispossessed them of their valuables and damaged property. Two suspects have been arrested by the police with weapons.
“On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, around 11am, some suspected cultists fomented trouble in the areas, creating fears in the minds of innocent Lagosians. Policemen were deployed in the areas and they arrested two suspects.
“The suspects are Tunde Rosanye, 39, and Muyideen Ayede, 20. Items recovered from them included one locally-made short gun, some live and expended cartridges, two cutlasses, three knives, one mobile phone and a small bag. The suspects have given useful information to the police and efforts are on to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, while assuring Lagosians that all hands will be on the deck to consistently fight crime and criminality, especially cultism and gangsterism in the state, ordered that the suspects be moved to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation, and that other members of the gang must be brought to justice.”
