Idris Jagun, a 24-year-old generator engineer lost his life to a stray bullet fired by a policeman in Oregun, Ikeja area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that some people were reportedly fighting on Oregun Road late hours on Sunday when a police patrol van arrived at the scene.
Jagun was reportedly shot in the thigh after a bullet was fired by a yet-to-be-identified policeman, who had allegedly shot into the crowd when the policemen were said to have come down from the van to disperse the crowd.
In a viral video, a man was heard saying “Policemen have killed somebody. They have killed somebody.”
Jagun was said to have been rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said he could not provide further details about the incident.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident. I don’t have details yet,” the PPRO simply said.
