… Residents Urge Police To Investigate Assault
Residents of Pearl Garden Estate in Lekki, Lagos state have appealed to the Inspector General of police to investigate a case of a former property developer in the estate allegedly sending thugs and armed police operatives to beat up the Chief Security Officer (CSO).
It was alleged that the former developer and owner of CMB Building Maintenance and Investment Company, had attempted to sell the green area in the master plan of the estate. And as a result, sent those men and officers to invade and cause chaos in the estate.
According to residents, the thugs who invaded the estate on Tuesday at 5.30pm, were accompanied by armed police operatives who claimed to be sent from the Assistant Inspector General of Police from Abuja to warn residents against interfering in the sale of the green areas.
Spokesperson of Pearl Garden Estate Residents Association, Mr. Godwin Egbebe, told newsmen that around 5.30pm, the former developer brought in some thugs and policemen with his CSO.
“They said they were from Abuja that they got some letters from the IG’s office, Abuja. When they got here, they said they wanted to serve some residents the warrant. They were allowed in because we are law abiding people here.
“We have our green area; that is part of what made us to buy into this project. Suddenly, he started selling all the green areas. We decided to take possession of the ones remaining. We put a caveat there. But they came in yesterday with their thugs and beat up our chief security officer to stupor. The videos are there. He is in coma now.”
Egbebe further decried that the thugs were removing all the sign posts they placed for buyers to beware. He hinted, “They wanted to remove that because they had sold it to somebody. When the CSO tried to stop them, they brought in their thugs, under the watch of the police from Abuja, and beat him up.”
He therefore, called on the President, Muhammadu Buhari, the state government, and the IG of police to come to their aid.
“This thing is becoming a recurring decimal, selling people’s properties and getting away with it,” he said.
While noting that the estate had arrested the CSOs and thugs of the former developer at Ogombo police station, another resident, Ayodeji Akureso, described the situation as a shocking.
He said: “I would say it is not unusual. The person we are dealing with has been coming with all kinds of atrocities like that. Of course, the case is in court, there has been so many terrible things happening in the estate.”
