Residents of Festac Town, Lagos, were seen scooping fuel from a fallen petrol tanker on the newly renovated Festac Link Bridge on Sunday after it spilled its content.
The tanker, which was carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), overturned and spilled its content.
Emergency responders, however, arrived the scene to trans-load the remaining content.
In the words of the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency responders were on ground to prevent a secondary incident.
“The Agency responded to distress calls at around 0600hrs this morning and arrived to find an overturned tanker with its contents (33,000 litres of petrol) rapidly spilling due to the effect of gravity on the overturned tanker.
The concerted efforts of Agency Firefighters, Lagos Fire Service and the Nigeria Police helped to prevent secondary incident.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu “The scene was invaded by people carrying kegs attempting to scoop the product. This required additional police support. Trans-loading of product is ongoing.”
This is coming after another fuel-laden tanker fell on Ogba road and spilled its content.
Another team of emergency responders arrived the scene to avert any explosion.
