Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu has hailed the completion of Lekki Deep Sea Port saying the project has turned the state to maritime logistics hub for West and Central Africa.

The Governor made the statement at a ceremony to mark the completion of the Port on Monday. The Port which is set to commence operation will create over 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and expected to bring in billions of dollars in revenue to the state government.

An elated Sanwo-olu wrote on his social media pages thus:

“I attended the commemoration of the completion of the construction of the Lekki Deep-sea port. It is indeed heartwarming to have one of the most modern Deep-Sea Ports in the world, here in our Lagos State. We are very proud to not only be the host of this engineering wonder, but also to be an investor in it, alongside Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“This is a landmark day for Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited (LPLEL), comprising China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and Tolaram Group; and for the Lagos State Government, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) as a whole.

“The benefits for Lagos State are tremendous – 200,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created, in addition to tens of billions of dollars in taxes and revenues. The new Port will position Lagos as the new maritime logistics hub of West and Central Africa, while also positioning Nigeria to attain the full economic leadership potential that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) represents.

“I want to use this opportunity to assure the private players in this project, investors, intending investors, communities and residents, of the commitment of the Lagos State Government to the development of the road infrastructure serving the new port.

“We are collaborating closely with the Federal Government, to ensure that between us both, every access road to this Port will get the required attention in full. We have the example of the Apapa Port to learn from, we will NOT allow this area to become another byword for traffic gridlock and commuter frustration.

“I therefore ask for your patience and cooperation, even as we work to upgrade the transport and ancillary infrastructure, to keep up with the pace of development. See these investors as partners for progress and development, and creators of the jobs and prosperity that will transform your lives and communities.”
