…Lagos residents react
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Tuesday went after commercial motorcycle riders better known as Okada plying against traffic along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
A trending social media video captured the moment the governor stopped his convoy and went after the riders.
On sighting him, the okada riders scampered away with some of them leaving their motorcycles and passengers. But five of them were arrested by Sanwo-Olu’s team.
“Hey madam, you are a graduate and you allowed them to take you on a one-way… if you fall and you die, they will say the government killed you. What a shame,” Sanwo-Olu said in another video shared by his media aide Wale Ajetunmobi.
Reactions on X
“Funnily enough, na police and soldiers dey break Okada law and order pass, come to Ikeja and see them,” Wale Coker reacts.
Vesper Martini said, “True. Those guys even run it with their family and friends on that route. They only wear some markings to indicate they’re police, Army, etc while picking pax all about that route. @followlasg must also do some arresting at that Ikeja axis.”
Collins WeGlobe explained, “Instead of taking steps that might endanger young guys just trying to earn their bread, I really think the Lagos State government should consider using speed cameras, red light cameras, and number plate scanners. Installing high-tech CCTV cameras with face recognition in key areas would be a smarter and safer approach. And how about using drones for a bird’s-eye view of traffic, plus traffic lights that adapt to how busy the roads are? Lagos State has the resources to do this. What if, in the process of chasing these people, someone falls and dies? It’s time to get every Lagosian registered. Know your citizens. Identify who’s following the law and who’s not. Use advanced tech to monitor the state and keep everyone safe.”
Olanrewaju Michael said, “Being a soldier gave the right to break the law. This is the mentality of an average Nigerians… he’s simply telling the governor “do you know who I am ?” The lawlessness on that mile2-Okoko axis ehn, even jungle sef Dey learn.”
