…granted N1m bail options as case adjourns till August
Six men, on Tuesday, were remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre after they appeared before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court sitting in Tinubu, Lagos Island, over an alleged threat to life.
The men are Sunday Olabayo, Lawal Adefemi, Gbenga Demurin, Idowu Mujaheed, Samsudeen Oluwo, and Dare Majekodunmi.
The defendants are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, threat to life and possession of dangerous weapons, and wilful damage.
The prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 8, 2023.
He said they conspired and invaded Eyin-Osa Resettlement Scheme at llamijia, Epe, Lagos State.
Animashaun said the defendants, who were armed with weapons, threatened to kill one Saheed Abdullahi.
He also told the court that the defendants forcefully entered the resettlement scheme and attempted to take over the community.
The prosecutor added that the defendants wilfully demolished and destroyed the existing perimeter fence of land in the resettlement scheme belonging to the complainant without his consent.
However, all the defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Following their not-guilty plea, Animashaun asked the court for a trial date.
He also urged the court to remand them till the determination of the charges against them.
But the defendants’ lawyer, Abayomi Omotubora, applied for their bail.
Magistrate Benard Sonuga granted them N1m bail each with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
While adjourning the matter till August 23, 2023, for mention, the magistrate ordered that they should be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre pending when they can meet their bail conditions.
