On the 24th November, the French Minister Olivier Becht inaugurated the “Food for Nations” agri-food platform, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between France and Nigeria in the agri-food sector. Fostering cooperation and trade, the platform is a testament to the immense potential for growth, as far as agribusiness relationships between both countries are concerned.
France, renowned for its rich culinary heritage and technical expertise in the agri-food industry, recognises the promising opportunities that lie in partnering with Nigeria. On the other hand, with 70 million underutilised arable land, Nigeria stands as a beacon for local and foreign investors eager to enhance agricultural productivity.
The “Food for Nations” digital trade platform is lauded as a catalyst for the development of robust bilateral relations in agriculture and agribusiness. Minister Becht expressed appreciation for the contributions of Nigerian entrepreneurs, highlighting the role of JR Farms’ CEO in energising the agribusiness relationship between Nigeria and France.
In an open invitation to Nigerian investors, Minister Becht emphasised France’s eagerness to welcome agricultural investments, citing the example of JR Farms. This collaboration reflects a commitment to strengthening ties and fostering mutual benefits in the agriculture sector.
A noteworthy development is the planned presence of a vibrant Nigerian Pavilion at the upcoming Paris International Agriculture Fair from February 24 to March 3, 2024.
This pavilion will serve as a showcase for the diversity and potential of Nigerian agribusiness, further solidifying the collaboration between the two nations.
During the inauguration, Minister Olivier Becht had the opportunity to explore a variety of agri-food products presented by some of the most active Nigerian producers, underscoring the richness and quality of the offerings in the Nigerian agri-food landscape.
The “Food for Nations” agri-food platform stands as a symbol of the shared commitment of France and Nigeria to unlock the immense potential in the agri-food sector, fostering economic growth, innovation, and a thriving partnership.
