Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, has said that the President’s omission of Tuesday’s Lekki Toll Gate shooting was because the matter is still under investigation.
Buhari gave a nationwide broadcast Thursday evening, two days after the shooting, lamenting the killing of innocent police officers and ignoring the shooting of #EndSARS protesters, an action that has both been condemned by both Nigerians and international media organisations.
Adesina, who appeared on Politics Today, a live show on Channel Television, said that the President mentioning the shooting would have been “premature”.
He said: “The Defence Headquarters issued a statement to say that it was investigating the matter. Lagos State Governor has also set up a probe panel to investigate what really happened.
“So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while investigation is ongoing. It is after investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter.”
