Lagos is currently abuzz with events focused on Art, Fashion and Entertainment. In the midst of all these activities, WIMBIZ, Women in Management, Business and Public Service, is set to host a high-profile event to showcase the talents of female contemporary fashion designers and visual artists. The event tagged “The WIMBIZ Art and Fashion Showcase” will hold on Sunday, October 31st at the Wings Tower, Ozumba Madiwe in Lagos.
The two-fold event comprises of an Art exhibition, hosted by Ugomma Ebilah, featuring a large collection of female Nigerian artists; and a fashion show, hosted by Ozinna Anumudu, to spotlight the designs of female-owned fashion labels: Lady Biba, Oama, For Style Sake, Private Label, and Fablane by Derin.
As WIMBIZ turns its attention to the creative industry, true to its nature, the non-profit hopes to converge these creatives with potential partners, investors, mentors, customers and other relevant persons in an environment that motivates networking, female support, mentorship and other organic connections.
Commenting on the upcoming show, the event committee chair Ms. Bukky George-Taylor remarked “These fashion and art pieces are truly remarkable, and these female creatives deserve befitting platforms that awards them the recognition they have worked hard to earn.”
To support the individual artists and designer, all pieces showcased at the event will be available for purchase both at the show and after through a brochure that will be made available to all interested persons.
This event is part of a series of grand activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the non-profit who has dedicated its years to empowering and uplifting women from all works of life. Other events in the line-up a CSR initiative tagged ‘Big Sister Program, a golf tournament, a collection of masterclasses, a Legends Ball for its members a networking breakfast all culminating with the 20th Annual Conference on the 4th and 5th of November.
The theme of this year’s conference as shared by the WIMBIZ Executive Council Chairperson, Mrs Ngover Ihyembe-Nwankwo, is ‘Celebrating Legacy’ in recognition of WIMBIZ’s 20 years of impact. The theme ‘Celebrating Legacy’ speaks to the labour, sacrifices and feats of phenomenal Africans, particularly Nigerian Women who have blazed a trail for other women to follow.
This year’s conference under the leadership of Ngover will celebrate women who have overcome adversity, broken stereotypes, and created enabling environments & opportunities for other women. It will also inspire today’s woman to draw from the stories of these ‘Pacesetters’ in envisioning a future for themselves & other women and intentionally build a legacy of collective prosperity & progress.
