All state courts in Lagos State will be closed to litigants from 24th December to 4th January, as the Lagos Chief Judge, Kazeem Alogba, has approved the period as Christmas vacation for judges in the state.
The courts will be re-opened to litigants as from Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
The information is contained in a public notice and titled: “Notice in The High Court of Lagos State 2020 Christmas Vacation” and signed on behalf of the Chief Judge by the Chief Registrar, Mrs. Busload Okunola.
It stated: “It is hereby stated for general information that the Chief Judge of Lagos State, the honourable Justice Kareem Alogba has pursuant to Order 49 Rule 4(C) of the high court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure Rules 2019 approved that the period between Thursday the 24th day of December, 2020 to Monday, the 4th of January, 2021 shall be the period fixed for Christmas Vacation 2020.
“Please note that work shall resume on Tuesday, the 5th day of January, 2021.”
The notice further stated that arrangements for dealing with urgent cases during the Christmas Vacation are that each judge will deal with all urgent applications related to any substantive case already assigned to him or her.
It said “any urgent application, the substantive cause of which has not already been assigned will be dealt with by the judge to whom the application is specifically assigned.
“Notwithstanding the provisions of Order 49, Rule 4, any cause or matter may be heard by a judge during the period of the Christmas Vacation where such a cause is urgent and provided that the condition prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 shall be observed and complied with.”
