Twenty promising African tech startups and scale-ups are set to pitch their innovative solutions at this year’s Angel Fair Africa, which returns to Nairobi for the first time since 2016. Hosted by Chanzo Capital in collaboration with Startupbootcamp AfriTech, MEST Africa, Antler, iHub, and GrowthAfrica, the event will take place at the Two Rivers International Finance and Innovation Centre.
Originally launched in 2013, Angel Fair Africa has rotated through various African cities, including Johannesburg, Lagos, Accra, Abidjan, Maputo, Dar es Salaam, Mauritius, and Cape Town. This year, the event returns to Nairobi, where 10 early-stage startups and 10 growth-oriented scale-ups will pitch to investors over two days.
Day one will feature startup pitches seeking angel, pre-seed, and seed funding. Among the startups representing their countries are Kenya’s VunaPay, NoMa, and Zopa254; Ghana’s BenBen and Lastmal; South Africa’s Ejoobi and Hitherroad; Uganda’s Karaa; Mozambique’s Goodbite; and Nigeria’s Wenzo. These ventures, many of which are in the early stages of growth, are focused on securing the capital needed to expand their operations.
On the second day, scale-ups ready for the next level of funding—including seed, Series A, and Series B investments—will present their pitches. Kenya leads the way with five scale-ups: Check-Ups Med, Chumz, Save App, EpiCenter Africa, and Twiva. The remaining participants include Ivory Coast’s MojaRide and DigiTech, Ghana’s PayAngel, Tanzania’s KilimoFresh, and Nigeria’s HouseAfrica.
All participants have completed accelerator programs with Angel Fair Africa partners, such as iHub, MEST Africa, and Startupbootcamp AfriTech, which provide essential preparation and pre-screening for emerging businesses.
