There is currently uproar among the Nigerian youth after they took to social media to raise alarm that Access Bank blocked their various accounts following the recent #EndSARS protest.
With this injustice, according to the youth, they have urged other young Nigerians to close their accounts with Access bank henceforth, as it is perceived to be against human rights.
The youth is demanding the removal of the illegal restriction of Nigerians bank accounts by the Central Bank of Nigeria with the hashtag #BoycottAccessBank.
As trending on Twitter, a youth addressed as Travel Doctor, tweeted, “During the #EndSARS protest, @myaccessbank blocked my account for sending money to injured protesters without a court order for about three weeks. I will be boycotting this bank and will also make sure my affiliates do the same.”
The irate youth continued, “I was unable to send money or receive funds from my friends to help these young people that were injured and in need. @myaccessbank is pathetic. You blocked my account. Know that a very vital customer and my comp and affiliates will also do the same!”
Another Twitter handler, Chlorpheniramine, shared, “Today makes it exactly one month since @myaccessbank froze my account on the directives of CBN. It was blocked on the 15th of October because I received donations for #EndSARS protest in Port Harcourt I want my account unblocked and Access bank compensate me for damages!”
For Paul Smith Obasi, “I and my friends successfully closed our account with access bank today not minding the heavy presence of Nigeria police force stationed there for no clear reason, and we did this to show we are against the unjust blocking of account belonging to young hardworking Nigerians.”
Funmi Oyatogun noted, “My @gtbank account has been blocked since Oct. 19, 2020 and I am not on any list. Yet my bank tells me that the order came from the CBN Governor.
“My GTBank account is blocked. I’m sure I’m not the only one. What did I do wrong?”
Whereas Bobby Rebellion accused Access bank of joining sides with those who hurt them. “Access Bank has joined sides with the very people who want to arrest, kill and shut us up, right? Nigerian youths, I trust my generation.
He further charged other youth, “Let’s show access bank what a deadly mistake they have made.”
