Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the constitution of a special traffic management and enforcement compliance team to resolve the traffic gridlock in and around Apapa.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Sunday said the team would ensure zero tolerance for traffic offenders and a seamless traffic management system is designed to restore sanity in Apapa and environs.
“It will also create a cohesive system that will aid the resurgence of business activities and ensure that residents live in a conducive environment devoid of traffic-induced stress.
“With the development, it is expected that traffic within Apapa and its environs will be better managed by a team of dedicated, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, the police, as well as intelligence service officers,” the statement reads partly.
Members of the team include the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Toyin Fayinka, who is the head; General Manager, LASTMA, Olajide Oduyoye; the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Sola Giwa; and the SSA to the Governor on Political Security Intelligence, Ayodeji Laurent.
The statement explained that the action followed Sanwo-Olu’s visit to visit to Apapa in December 28, 2020 and his pronouncement on the takeover of traffic management from the Presidential Task Team.
