The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences in (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force), Wednesday, arraigned Mrs. Bukola Ayorinde before a Lagos Mobile Court over fraud and impersonating as housing agents in Ikorodu area of the state.
The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi explained that her arrest was effected after victims laid series of complaints over some fake house agents obtaining large sums of money from them and absconding.
He added that the agency acting on a petition received from one Mrs. Olusola Ola-John, her latest victim, that she was defrauded of N250,000 over securing an apartment for her aged mother at Millennium Estate Igbe in Ikorodu by same suspect.
“After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was the same person who had been defrauding innocent members of the public, claiming to be a house agent around Ikorodu axis,” he noted.
Egbeyemi continued that the suspect was charged for ‘Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace, Cheating and Obtaining N250.000 under False Pretense’ before Chief Magistrate Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju of the Lagos State Mobile Court sitting at Bolade in Oshodi.
Reacting to the three-count charges levelled against her, Bukola pleaded ‘guilty’ to the charges which necessitated an adjournment to Friday, June 26 this year for a ‘fact and sentence’ judgment by the Magistrate.
While appealing to the public to be wary of fraudsters impersonating agents when securing accommodation in any parts of the state, Egbeyemi confirmed that it was in line with the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu that the suspect was charged to court for prosecution.
