…Razes four shops
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Team and other stakeholders have put out the Ajao Estate market inferno that broke out sometime around 1:00a.m earlier today, Wednesday.
The fire, which left four shops totally razed, according to residents reportedly started in one of the lock-up-shops, in a small shopping mall located just before the Ajao Estate main market. It then extended into the main market.
Consequently, LASEMA revealed that although no life was lost, some properties and goods worth several billions of naira were lost.
According to some shop owners, the fire was attributed to an electrical power surge suspected to have sparked the fire. Combined efforts of LASEMA Fire Unit, the State and Federal Fire Services battled the situation.
The DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, advised Lagosians to engage in safe electrical practices like switching off all electrical outlets before closure of business daily, as well practicing of safe and proper fuel storage.
According to him, Preliminary Report on Fire Incident at Ajao Estate Market Opposite CPM Church on Wednesday July 1 has it that, “The agency received a distress call at 1:59am via emergency help line 767/112 regarding a fire outbreak at the aforementioned location and immediately deployed its team to the incident scene.
“Upon arrival at the scene , it was discovered that the aforementioned Market located inward Oshodi by Welcome bustop was completely engulfed in flames,” Oke-Osanyintolu noted.
He continued that the Lagos State Fire Service, LASEMA fire team and the Federal fire service worked to battle the inferno and prevented it from spreading to nearby residential buildings.
“Investigation revealed that the fire started in one of the lockup shops , just before the main Ajao estate market before it extended to the main market due to an alleged electrical power surge.
“No life was lost and no injuries sustained, but a total of four shops were completely destroyed and properties and goods worth several billions of naira have been razed by the inferno.
“The Fire was finally put under control but the area has been cordoned off for safety reasons”.
