…. As Sanwo-Olu reiterates commitment to urban regeneration, infrastructural renewal
Lagos State government has said that it will henceforth clamp down on all unregistered vehicles plying Lagos roads in line with Section 16 and 196 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018 to further stimulate the safety and protection of life and property in the state.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola, who disclosed this in a statement, yesterday, said the move became necessary to checkmate the activities of some criminal elements that had devised various operational strategies to attack unsuspecting members of the public, thereby making it difficult for law enforcement agencies to track or trace such incidence.
Toriola further said that the law enforcement agencies would soon commence immediate impoundment of such vehicles in a bid to promote safety and security of life and property, as well as restore sanity on Lagos roads.
He, therefore, urged motorists who have been defiant to the state traffic law to make amends by registering their vehicles under relevant agencies.
MEANWHILE, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, renewed his administration’s commitment to urban regeneration and infrastructural renewal.
Sanwo-Olu, who stated this at the commissioning of 20-unit of two-bedroom blocks of flats in Surulere, said the state government remained committed to scaling up access to safe and convenient housing, as well as strengthening partnerships with the private sector to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He said the provision of safe and comfortable housing schemes for the citizens remained a key objective of government’s programmes, noting that the intervention had helped his administration to raise standards of living.
Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ayodeji Joseph, said the housing scheme was built to reflect simplicity and elegance, while also being complemented with contemporary infrastructure.
The apartments, he said, had dedicated uninterrupted power source in addition to being connected to the national grid.
Joseph said the Owolewa Vocational Centre was built by LSDPC as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the Surulere community to further aid the state government’s efforts at empowering young people with modern skills.
Besides, the governor also opened a vocational training centre built by the LSDPC on Owolewa Street in Surulere.
Sanwo-Olu said the redevelopment of the abandoned land had not only provided accommodation for residents, but major security threat in the area had also been solved.
IN another development, Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Ailegun Ward of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have thanked the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for fulfilling his promise to the community with the completion of a town hall.
Chairman, Coalition of Ailegun Ward CDAs, Adekunle Adekojo, who expressed gratitude of residents to the governor for making the project a reality, pledged that the community would take ownership of the hall and ensure it is well used.
He implored the state government to bring more projects to the community.
