Robyn Fenty, superstar singer popularly known as Rihanna, is finally putting a date on her years-long promise of a new album.
The business mogul, who had in the past years focused on her multi-billion dollar brand, has been hinting at her return to music after a seven-year hiatus.
First releasing a new track titled, “Lift me Up” for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie, Rihanna also stunned the Super Bowl crowd during the half-time show on Sunday.
In her cover story with Vogue, March 2023 issue, the mother of one stated that she never stopped recording music, but she had fallen in and out of love with some of the songs over the years.
When asked if her fans should finally anticipate a new album’s release, Rihanna said, “I want it to be this year. Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun.”
The ‘Diamonds’ star is also promising visuals to go along with the album
“I just want to make music and make videos. And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking,” she continued.
Reminiscing on ‘Anti’, her last album released back in 2016, Rihanna said she felt a pressure to outperform the chart-topper.
“In hindsight, it really is my most brilliant album,” she confessed. “I say that because in the moment, I didn’t realise it. But it always felt like the most cohesive album I’ve ever made. When you break it down and you realise this album goes from ‘Work’ to ‘Kiss It Better’ to ‘Needed Me’ to ‘Love on the Brain’ to ‘Sex with Me’ to ‘Desperado’.
“But there’s this pressure that I put on myself. That if it’s not better than that then it is not even worth it.”
Fans continue to hope for her new project even as the singer just recently joined the mother’s club, and is currently expecting another child. After welcoming her first son with rapper, ASAP rocky in May 2022, the songstress rocked the Internet by revealing her second pregnancy during Sunday’s performance.
