No fewer than seven governorship candidates and nine political parties under the Alliance of Registered Political Parties (ARPP) have declared their support for the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for second term.
The event was attended by the governorship candidates and representatives of the nine political parties in the ARPP.
The endorsement was announced at a press conference in Lagos on Monday, stating that the decision to back Sanwo-Olu was informed by the governor’s outstanding performance in office.
They said that Sanwo-Olu had delivered on his social contract with the people of Lagos through the THEMES mantra.
The nine parties are the All Peoples Party; Action Democratic Party; Allied Peoples Movement; National Rescue Movement; Young Progressives Party; New Nigeria Peoples Party; Zenith Labour Party; Social Democratic Party and People’s Redemption Party.
The seven candidates that stepped down for Sanwo-Olu ahead of Saturday’s governorship election included Ajayi Adebayo (YPP), Mrs Adeyemi Abiola (APP), Adenipebi Mode Adekunle (ZLP), Kupoluyi Funmi (APM), Braithwate Akinwynmi (NRM), Olanrewaju Kamal (NNPP), and Ishola Bamidele (ADP).
They said, “We reached this decision consequence upon our thorough analysis of all the good works and rapid development in Lagos. We cannot sacrifice the various landmark achievements of the present administration scattered all over the state on the altar of bitter politicking.
“The governor’s consistency as a progressive democrat is worthy of due commendation and continuity is key.
“We observed at a close range his energetic campaign through the nooks and crannies of the state.”
Speaking furthermore, the parties said, “It’s worthy of note that he literarily saved the country from the scourge of COVID-19 through proactive measures that underscored his responsive and responsible attributes. Among others, massive road construction, investments in education, health care services, the environment, youth empowerment, tourism, public transportation, housing, science and technology need to be consolidated during his second term.”
They pointed out that it would be good for the state to be in tune with the incoming Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Presidency.
“Lagos State, at a time like this, is better entrusted into the hands of experienced and patriotic leaders.A vote for Sanwo-Olu will indeed be an endorsement for continuity and greater development,” the parties said, urging supporters to re-elect Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, on Saturday.
