…Moves to the Glass House
After spending 13 days in London, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 4:45pm, on Tuesday evening.
He left Nigeria to join other world leaders on May 3 for the United Kingdom to participate in the Coronation ceremony of King Charles III and his Queen Consort, Camilla which was held on May 6.
The President, who was initially scheduled to return to Abuja within the week, however, rescheduled his return for another week as he was slated to meet with his dentist for dental procedure.
Announcing Buhari’s decision to stay another week in London, Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement had said: “President Muhammadu Buhari will be in London, United Kingdom, for an additional week, at the behest of his Dentist, who has started attending to him.
“The Specialist requires to see the President in another five days for a procedure already commenced.”
President Buhari will however not be returning to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa as his belongings has been moved to the Glass House, a temporary structure that has served as the abode of outgoing presidents since 1991.
The move is to allow for maintenance works on the residence in preparation for its next occupant, President-elect Bola Tinubu.
On the nature of renovations in the main residence, a senior State House source said that the 32-year-old edifice was being coated with white paint, while some of its sections were being cleaned and fumigated.
However, the renovation, which largely entails finishing and fittings, will not include the provision of new sets of furniture as the incoming President will determine whether to change the existing ones or not.
