Twenty two months after assisting a fleeing suspect remove his handcuffs, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a welder, Aliu Tijani, who helped a suspected cultist to cut off his handcuffs after escaping from police custody.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided confirmation that the suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, had been previously arrested in 2021 but managed to escape from police custody.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect, Wasiu Opeyemi, who had escaped from police custody in August 2021 while in handcuffs, was recently apprehended by the command.
In a tweet from the PPRO’s Twitter handle, @BenHundeyin, it was stated, “Wasiu Opeyemi, a suspected cultist, escaped from police custody in August 2021 while still wearing handcuffs. Last week, he was successfully re-arrested, along with Aliu Tijani, the welder who had cut off the handcuffs during his initial escape.”
The PPRO further mentioned that both suspects had been arraigned and were presently being held in remand.
