The Lagos State Government has began removal of illegal structures, including makeshift shops, road medians and drainage alignments in the Lagos Island area of the state.
The Enforcement Unit of the office of the Special Assistant to the Governor of Central Business District commenced the exercise today.
Commenting on the development, the SA to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde, said that the exercise was to restore the beauty and master plan of the Lagos Island area.
Oyerinde added that directives had been given by the LASG to street traders, mechanics, religious bodies, operating in unauthorised places in the entire Lagos Island Business District to vacate those places.
He said that the demolition of these illegal structures within the district will be sustained and monitored henceforth.
The SA reiterated the need for all residents and business operators to assist in ensuring the success of the exercise, while the government continues with its advocacy and public enlightenment.
