…over 1000 teams expected to participate
Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, the Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has indicated an interest in hosting the 2023 Lagos Street Soccer championship finals while receiving the Lagos Street Soccer committee led by its chairman, Bolaji Yusuf, in his office.
While addressing the delegation, Olakanle announced that the two football centres strategically located within the LCDA are suitable venues for an event of such magnitude.
According to him, the LCDA is committed to further improving the facilities based on technical recommendations of the committee when they inspect the sports centres to improve their chances of bagging the hosting rights for the final. Olakanle said it was only natural for the LCDA to support the championship because it is an avenue to engage the teeming youth within the state.
He thanked the Lagos Street Soccer delegation for the visit. He said their mandate to resuscitate street soccer in Lagos state is a noble task capable of fostering unity amongst all tribes, religions, and political leanings within the state. He assured the Yusuf-led committee of his unalloyed support.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Yusuf applauded Olakanle’s achievements in sports since his emergence as the LCDA chairman. He promised that his team would visit the facilities and make recommendations before awarding the hosting rights to one of the interested bidders.
“The Lagos Street Soccer championship is back. Our mandate is to resuscitate and improve certain areas as grassroots football stages a comeback,” Yusuf said.
The visit is part of plans to reach out to critical stakeholders and partners before the October 2023 kick-off. More than 1,000 Teams will participate in the 2023 edition.
