Two persons have been confirmed dead and 15 others rescued after a boat crashed in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The accident occurred Wednesday evening at Powerline, Ikoyi Link Bridge.

It was gathered that the 17-passenger boat was Ikorodu bound when it suddenly caved-in following a lone accident.

According to the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the crash was caused by a rise in tide.

It said that the rider rammed into a high-tension pole that was flooded by water which led to the capsize of the boat.

The agency confirmed that two persons, a male and a female died from the accident, adding that 15 others were rescued unhurt.

LASWA said the deceased female was retrieved from the water while a search was on for the male.

It said: “The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being was confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics.

“The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials.

“The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing,” it said.
