The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has condemned the killing of a student, Jimoh Isiaka and leaving others with injuries during the fourth day of the #EndSARS protest in Ogbomoso area of the state.
Following the death of Isiaka after being rushed to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Makinde took to Twitter to vent his anger over the incessant killings.
According to reports, in an attempt to disperse the peaceful protesters, one of the police officers shot at Isiaka.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has denied killing Isiaka, explaining that its personnel only fired teargas at the #EndSARS protesters.
Isiaka, a Muslim, was buried immediately amid tears and anger, as sympathisers tried to console his father.
Makinde’s tweet, “I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of one of our children, Jimoh Isiaka, who was shot during the #EndSARS protest in Ogbomoso.
“He later died at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, earlier today (Saturday).”
“Also, at this same protest, Abdulrasaq Olawale, Oluwadamilare Gbolohunmi, and five other persons sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The governor described the situation as highly regrettable. “I have contacted the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, and other relevant agencies, and investigations into what led to the unfortunate incident are still ongoing.”
“I pray that God grants the parents of Jimoh Isiaka the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he added.
