Family of the late transporter, Ajayi Michael, has called for justice after he was allegedly killed by a notorious land grabber in Alimosho, Lagos State.
In a petition to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sylvester Alabi, the family said his killers must pay for the crime.
On April 16, thugs led by the alleged land grabber, attacked members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Iyana-Ipaja for control of the bus terminus.
Chair of Alimosho LCDA, Sulaiman Jelili, reportedly withdrew the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection handled by the alleged land grabber to another.
In retaliation, the land grabber was said to have led thugs to attack the new contractor, and shot Michael to death.
Others with gunshot wounds are being treated in hospitals.
The police allegedly arrested and later released Jelili, NURTW Chair in Iyana-Ipaja, Adedayo Omotolani, the alleged killer and accomplices.
In the petition by its lawyer, the family urged the DIG Office to take over the case.
Residents said the land grabber had been claiming lands with fake documents.
Adeoye Adewale lamented that even when they have documents, he still torments us.
“If you have a shop or kiosk in front of your house, he will tell you to pay.
“The union in Iyana Ipaja called his boys to stop collecting money from people.
“When his boys told him, he came to the union with thugs and started shooting. They killed three people.
“He has been terrorising us He said he is the backing of some politicians.”
Another resident said the land grabber’s father was a menace when he was alive.
“The land grabber claims his father owns the land. He harasses people, if we report, nothing happens.’’
The family pleads with the DIG Office to bring the culprits to book.
