In a strategic move to tackle Africa’s tech skills gap, Gebeya, the SaaS-enabled talent marketplace, has announced a partnership with tech giant NVIDIA to train 50,000 developers across the continent in artificial intelligence. This partnership comes eight months after Gebeya expanded into an all-in-one talent cloud platform, now known as the Gebeya Talent Cloud, providing solutions for organisational needs ranging from talent sourcing to community building.
Through this collaboration, Gebeya will incorporate NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute training paths into its Talent Cloud platform, allowing developers access to advanced AI and machine learning skills training, including NVIDIA certifications. Gebeya’s AI-driven Talent Cloud Technology will streamline skilling, recruitment, and matching processes, aiming to build a robust tech ecosystem that drives innovation and prepares African developers for a competitive AI landscape.
Wei Xiao, NVIDIA’s Director of Developer Relations, expressed confidence that the partnership will catalyse Africa’s growth as an AI talent hub, drawing global investment and elevating Africa’s role in the global tech industry. Amadou Daffe, CEO of Gebeya, shared that the initiative aims to unify and upskill fragmented tech communities across Africa, positioning the continent as a centre for AI innovation and NVIDIA expertise.
Gebeya’s journey from an edtech startup in 2017 to a talent cloud provider highlights its commitment to bridging Africa’s tech skills gap. Prior to this, Gebeya collaborated with Microsoft to launch Microsoft.Gebeya.com, a platform designed to upskill and connect African developers with opportunities. That partnership set a goal of training 300,000 developers across Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt, and other countries by 2026, with 150,000 developers targeted for upskilling in the first year alone.
Gebeya faces competition from Andela, another Africa-focused platform that launched its own Talent Cloud in December 2023, which has reshaped hiring processes by connecting skilled tech talent with companies globally.
Through this latest NVIDIA partnership, Gebeya continues to strengthen Africa’s tech workforce, setting a foundation for AI-driven growth and aiming to establish Africa as a significant player in the field of artificial intelligence.
